General information:
Amonium in drinking water come mainly by infiltrating nitrogen from human manure (urine).
Referential after which the analysis is performed:
Analysis for the determination of ammonia at drinking water is performed in its own laboratory according to the standard national SR ISO 7150-1:2000.
Principle of the method:
Determination of ammonium to drinking water is performed by spectrophotometric analysis.
Sample rejection cases – quantity of inappropriate sample, sample collected in inappropriate containers, samples not properly labelled, etc.
Recipient of harvesting – clean container, must be taken in polyethylene or glass containers.
The amount of sample required to perform the analysis - minimum 200ml.
Processing required after harvesting – not required.
Stable sample – They must be analyzed as soon as possible or preserved until the analysis at a temperature between 2oC and 5oC. Acidification with sulfuric acid at pH<2 can also be performed provided that contamination of the acidified sample by absorption of ammonia from the atmosphere is avoided.
Adding method - spectrophotometrica.
Reference values according to the Water Law1)
Parameter / Unit of measurement | CA value (Maximum permissible concentration) |
|
max. 0.50 |
2) Water should not be aggressive
Recommendations for performing the analysis/ Effects of exceeding the reference values –
The knowledge of the ammonium value is extremely important? in assessing the degree of pollution of the potable, being able to express the degree of manure load. Can come from deep sources and in this case ammonium may have vegetal origin. In these cases it can be considered non-hazardous even in concentration above the limit.
The presence of ammonia is associated with iron and manganese, and in their reduction treatment, their oxidation effect decreases. It can be eliminated by means of an energetic chlorination process, in this regard specific tanks and filters will be used.
